 Al-Mukmin Pesantren Profile

  • Education models -- traditional system and modern system.
  • Independent school and was not built to affiliate with any organization or group.
  • Teachings principles based on Koran and Sunnah -- universal (kaaffah), comprehensiveness (syumul) and integrated (mutakaamil) understanding.
  • School graduates expected not trapped into fanatic mind by specific group and not to be taqlid Moslems (to accept and follow opinion/thinkings and religious practices without knowledge). 
 H i s t o r y
  • Founded on 10th March 1972. Located at Jalan Gading Kidul No. 72 A, in Solo city, Central Java. Managed by YPIA.
  • About 30 students --including 10 orphan students– at the beginning of the school. 
  • In 1974 the school moved to new location at the sub village of Cemani, called Ngruki. That’s why this school called and well known as Pondok Ngruki.
  • Founding Fathers: Abdullah Sungkar, Abu Bakar Ba’asyir, Abdullah Baraja’, Yoyok Raswadi, H. Abdul Qohar Daeng Matase and Hasan Basri
     
Mission

To develop Moslem generation that comply with:

  • Salimul Aqidah, truth faith and belief in a whole life aspect)
  • Sahihul Ibadah, sincere and right practice of ibadah (worship) appropriate to Prophet’s practices
  • Matinul Khuluq, good character and morality
  • Mustaqofu’l Fikri, broaden knowledge on religion, science and technology as well
  • Qowiyul Jismi, strong and sound body
  • Qodiran ‘Alal Kasbi, to live independently
  • Nafi’an Linnafsi wa Lighoirih, useful for other people and himself
  • Mujahidan Lidinih, to give all effort and competency for religion

SLTP Pondok Pesantren
  • A junior high school level which combines state curriculum and pesantren education.
  • Three years program of the study.
  • Accredited by the Government that allow students to attend National Examination.
  • The main basic subjects are: Aqidah, Syari’ah, Arabic Language and English Language.
  • Addtional subjects-- mathematics & physical science, social science, economic, etc.

Takhosus

  • Belong to students from out-side Ngruki who want to study for both Madrasah Aliyah or Kulliyatul Muallimin.
  • This is one year intensive class to adjust knowledge on Arabic and English and other boarding school subjects.
  • They have to complete this program successfully to enter the higher level.

Kulliyatul Mua’alimin (KMI)

  • KMI is a teaching school. KMI admit graduates from SLTP Pondok Pesantren and Takhosus or other boarding schools that have similar curriculum with Ngruki.
  • Religious subjects containing 70 %, and 30% adopted from national curriculum.
  • The certificate of KMI admitted by Islamic University Medina Saudi Arabia.
  • KMI also allowed to attend State Final Examination of SLTA to continue their study for Indonesian universities.

KMI Assignment

Before completing final assignment the students have to practice various programs:

  • Fathul Kutub, to analyze various Arabic-text books (Kitab Kuning) that must be reported in Arabic or English writings
  • Al-bahtsu, Working paper in Arabic and English
  • Amaliyatut Tadriis, Teaching practices
  • Al-Mumtahinus Safahi, practicing to be examiner for oral examamination
  • Al-Khutbah Al-Arobiyah wal Injiliziah. Public speaking in Arabic and English.

Madrasah Aliyah Assignment

  • A senior high school level. It fully adopts the state curriculum while implement pesantren curriculum with the same portion.
  • Two kind of final examination: Final Examination for Pesantren and Final State Examination required by the Department of Religious Affair
  • Before conduct final examination the students undertake their assignment:
  • Writing book review in Arabic and English language.
  • Memorizing at least 5 sections of the Holy Koran

Ma’had Aly Assignment

Ma’had Aly, called Pesantren Tinggi, is a university level school. It is adopting the State Islamic Institute curriculum, Ummul Quro University in Mecca and other universities in Middle East.

Teachers & Employees

  • Every teacher in Ngruki called ustadz, no matter the subject they teach. Not only for religious subjects.
  • About 250 teachers (ustadz) and employee.
  • Several permanent teachers and most of young teachers live within the student’s complex to let them get in-touch with students for 24 hours.

Student Profile

  • The student of Ngruki called ‘santri’, the same terminology understood by common Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia.
  • They come from various provinces in Indonesia-- not only from Surakarta city– with various family backgrounds: peasant, business people/traders, private or state employee, etc.
  • About 1.800 students, boys and girls. They live in separate dormitory and study in separate classroom

Study Activities

  • The Ngruki’s life goes very tightly time by time. It begins at 03.30 early morning and finishes at 22.00 pm. All activities marked by the bell at every hour.
  • Tough discipline for students. All activities are for learning and working only, except for personal activities.
  • There are so many rules that no body violate it otherwise they will be punished.
  • For example: everybody have to speak in Arabic or English at every time except for students at the first year.

Organization System
  • Modern style. Not a centralized by one figure like many other traditional pesantren (salaf pesantren) in Indonesia that centralized by one person called ‘kyai’.
  • Ngruki is controlled and managed by the Director. It has also functions of the organization and job descriptions for each department/section that has authorities to make any decision in running their program.

Alumni

  • Two segmentation for Ngruki graduates – KMI Graduates and MAAM Graduates.

    KMI graduates are strong in religious knowledge and ready to be good religious teachers or Islamic preachers.

  • MAAM graduates are expected to enhance their studies to universities. And most of the MAAM graduates have good record from various State Universities in Indonesia.
